Precious Star Gabourey Sidibe is covering the pages of the March issue of Ebony. And she’s dishing on working with Mo’Nique and director Lee Daniels changing her life. Essence Magazine reports:

With the Academy Awards right around the corner, Ebony moved far beyond the silver screen to zero in on the power of the image as it relates to African-Americans. For this March issue, Precious star and first-time film actor Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe provides the essential backdrop to help examine what power really means. In a league of her own, she has definitely defied the “classic beauty” image in today’s movie industry. Yet, she possesses the kind of inner strength, courage and freedom that most of us would love to call our own.

“I wake up with myself every morning, so the only opinion that really matters is mine,” says Sidibe.

“I feel like a model. It justifies everyone in my life who told me I wouldn’t be anything until I lost weight. It justifies that little girl who cried because she didn’t think she could be in front of the camera. And it’s for other girls who feel like they can’t do this or that and feel like they’re not pretty and not worthy of having their photo taken.”

On her confidence:
“People always ask me, ‘You have so much confidence. Where did that come from?’ It came from me. One day I decided that I was beautiful, and so I carried out my life as if I was a beautiful girl. I wear colors that I really like, I wear makeup that makes me feel pretty, and it really helps. It doesn’t have anything to do with how the world perceives you. What matters is what you see.”

On her frustration with some media synopsis’ of Precious:
“‘Gabby Sidibe is an overweight black girl who is illiterate and pregnant by her father,’” she parrots. “Look, I am black. I’m also overweight, but that’s not the point of the story. The point is the abuse and her bravery. This stuff happens to skinny people, to white people, to so many different people that they’ve missed the point if they say it’s about a fat girl.”

She's beautiful. She's black. She's Barbie in Vogue Italia!

This July, black Barbie is spectacularly showcased in Vogue Italia's special issue, seen above.

In July 2008, Vogue Italia created the first Black Issue sending a strong message about the importance of diversity to the fashion world. And now the magazine has replicated the Black Issue with a special, collector Barbie supplement that pays tribute to Barbie through artistic photography and fashion.

It's similar to the larger Vogue Italia book entirely dedicated to beautiful models including Naomi Campbell, Lyia Kebede, Sessilee Lopez and Jourdan Dunn. The Vogue Italia Black Issue was conceived by Franca Sozzani, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Italia, who decided to dedicate a full issue to black models that have reached successes in the influential areas of fashion and art. It was her vision to extend the edition this year to include images of Barbie.

Sozzani said: "Barbie has been an icon for whole generations which is why I really wanted to give a strong sign in step with the times, and dedicate the anniversary issue to Black Barbie"

The first black doll from Barbie was introduced in 1967 as Black Francie, and the first Black Barbie doll introduced in 1980.

July Issue of Italian Vogue will feature all black models!

I told u...I told u....!

A month ago, I mentioned that there were whispers that Italian Vogue was set to release an issue featuring all black models. Well, that time has arrived! The July issue is set to release in Italy next week and in the States mid-July. Italian Vogue has used only black models for the July issue of the magazine, in a statement against discrimination in the fashion world according to the UK Telegrapher.

More than 100 pages of the issue, including the cover, will feature images of black women taken by the acclaimed New York based photographer Steven Meisel.

The pictures will be accompanied by articles on successful black women in arts and entertainment.

The move is in reaction to recent anger over the reluctance of fashion magazines to feature black models on their covers. Many industry insiders claim black girls are not used because they just "do not sell".

Serena Williams did an exclusive cover shoot with Ebony magazine in Malibu, California. When asked to talk about her rumored relationship with rapper Common, Serena was a bit mysterious: "I think he’s a great guy. He’s obviously a great artist who is timeless and classic. You can’t beat that. But I have to focus on tennis because that’s my goal in life."

Serena also talked about Olympic bid and staying fit.

Fader magazine is honoring Aaliyah on its June cover. The annual Icon issue highlights the life and legacy of the revolutionary songstress. My personal favorite song/video of hers is “We need a Resolution” and “Rock the Boat”. I was truly devasted when she died. No entertainer has filled the void that she left. Pick up a copy of the magazine to read what many of Aaliyah’s family, friends and industry peers have to say about the fallen star.

Ms. Riri says, “Well, it’s crazy that you ask me that. People know that it’s not true,” she says. “I think it’s kinda a cliche question, and people know it’s not true, so I don’t even know why it’s still addressed to this day. I get asked about it all the time and I’m like, You’re asking, but you know the answer. I don’t even like to address it anymore.”
