What more can a girl ask for? The latest winner of America's Next Top Model winner Saleishia Showers is on the latest cover of Seventeen Magazine. Air Jordan to release 23rd Edition this month

No other basketball shoe has changed the face of business, athletics and marketing like the Air Jordan. This month, Nike releases the 23rd edition, and it is expected to cause a frenzy.

Since its beginning in 1985, a new edition was launched each year, and release dates had to be moved to the weekends to keep kids from skipping school to get a pair.

The frenzy got dangerous. People were mugged and even killed for the shoes.

The Air Jordans helped spawn a subculture of collectors, who line up at stores to buy the shoe's latest edition.

People from the streets to the suburbs were wearing $100-plus basketball shoes, which was unheard of at the time.

The Air Jordan XX3 will be released in three hyped-up rounds from January to February, starting with a limited edition to be sent to only 23 retailers to be sold for $230 and concluding with the national launch at $185.

Nike's Air Jordan line for women is really cute too! Check it out at www.nike.com/jumpman23!

Keke Palmer is doing it big with new album!

I think Keke Palmer is going to blow up in '08! You may remember her from the Disney movie, Jump In or in the movie, Akeelah the Bee, and oh yeah, Madea's Family Reunion, but a lot of people don't know that she released her debut album last year titled, Uncool. Her newest song is called "The Game Song" but I really like the video, "Keep It Movin." She cites her musical influences as Aaliyah, TLC, Brandy, and Beyoncé. Her album is jammed with the kind of music that Keke loves, ranging from uptempo R&B tracks to inspirational songs to youthful, fun material that kids can relate to.

You too can go Green!

So, I know you may not watch Oprah but she is by far the most Supreme female role model to me. Therefore, I have dedicated a section of this blog to Oprah. Our first installment of Oprah Says is dedicated to Planet Earth. Did you know that we are killing planet earth at lightening speed? Maybe you did, but, did you also know that you can do something about it? Inspired by Oprah, here are some ways you too can go green!

1. Recycle newspaper, plastic containers, soda cans and glass. Usually the sanitation department picks up these items with your trash at least once a week. Remember when you recycle, containers and bags should be rinsed out first if dirty!

2. Don't use paper or plastic in the supermarket. Tell whoever does the grocery shopping in your home to use reusable canvas bags!!! But if you do have to use plastic bags, supermarkets like Publix have an area in the front of the store where you can drop off used grocery bags. You can also save plastic bags for projects, garbage bags, storage, etc!

3. Conserve water! When you brush your teeth in the morning, turn the water off while brushing.

4.When washing dishes, fill the sink up with soapy water and wash all of the dishes first. Then fill another sink with clean water. Dip dishes in this to rince off!! Don't use the dishwasher unless it is completely full. Same goes with the washing machine!

5. Take shorter showers...trust me, you can clean your body in ten to 15 minutes (30 minutes is just crazy!)

6. Turn off the lights! When you leave a room, turn off the lights. When you enter a room, turn them back on! Also, turn off televisions and appliances when they aren't being used.

7. Unplug it! Even when things are plugged in, they still use electricity. Tell your people that they can save money by taking things like blenders, radios, toasters, etc. out of the wall when they aren't being used (or use a power strip).

Happy New Year Divas!

Okay...It's a new year so in order to stick with tradition, take out your pen and paper and let's get to those new year's resolutions!!!

So you don't start exactly when the clock strikes 12...you have a five day grace period to jump start those resolutions (it's an unwritten rule!) Need some help? Here are a few resolutions that can help this '08 run as smoothly as that new ipod you got for Christmas!

Choose a few and stick with them!

1. I will take care of my body through physical activity and nutrition and eat at least one fruit and one vegetable every day, and I will limit the amount of soda I drink.

2. I will read one book from the library each month that is NOT a romance novel.

3. I will choose more positive television shows and I will limit my television time.

4. I will help out in my community – through volunteering, working with community groups or by joining a group that helps people in need.

5. I will wipe negative talk out of my vocabulary, including profanity, and make positivity and intelligence a priority in my life.

6. When I feel angry or stressed out, I will take a break and find constructive ways to deal with the stress, such as exercising, reading, writing in a journal or discussing my problem with a parent or friend.

7. When faced with a difficult decision, I will talk with a responsible adult about my choices.

8. I will be careful about whom I choose to date, and always treat the other person with respect and without coercion or violence and make responsible choices about our relationship.

9. I will resist peer pressure to try drugs and alcohol.

10. When I notice my friends are struggling or engaging in risky behaviors, I will talk with a trusted and responsible adult to attempt to find a way that I can help them.

The best way to stick with your New Year's Resolution is to type it out and post it somewhere you can read it often!
